Getting to the top of Google – Quick Tips
A few points to consider when getting to the top of Google.
Website Domain Name
Finding a domain with one of your main keywords available is a winner. Most companies want a domain with the company name in, that is great, but also consider your aim on search engines, you want to get to the top. The domain alone gets you several steps above the competition.
Website Title
The title is a very brief description of what you do. Select your main keywords and get them in there.
Meta Keywords – only visible to search engines
List keywords relevant to what you do and make sure that they are in the content on your website. Where possible include keywords in the main heading for content on your website as well as the first paragraph.
Meta Description – only visible to search engines
A short description about what you do. Once again include keywords in the description.
Website Content
Headings are an important place to include keywords. The first paragraph is just as important. Google want to find out what you do as quickly as possible. You can also bold important keywords to increase the importance of the various words.
Quick Summary
Google cannot ‘read’ and depends on the data it finds to determine what your website does. By repeating the important information Google picks up a pattern and is able to determine what it is that your website does. Google will then use that information along with other variables form your website as well as other websites it has crawled to determine where you fit in the listing structure.
It is important to keep it honest. Repeating the same words over and over again is not going to improve your ranking.
