Who is in charge of your website?
Websites have a job to do, and will do what you tell it to do, right? The question then begs asking, what have you asked your website to do?
The classic ‘one hit wonder’ and ‘site for site sake’ are clearly distinguished from sites where things happen. On the other side you have the site that is continually evolving and never seems to find a place to settle.
It all comes back to knowing what you want. That can be challenging, and the indecision often reflects a far deeper issue within the organisation. If the company has no set goals and strategy, the website is probably going to reflect the same.
To be in charge you need clearly understood goals. The clarity is then transferred into all aspects of the business including the website. The message is clear and the visitor knows what you do and why they visited you in the first place.
Websites are a collection of text and media, we all have access to the same raw material but only a few can turn that into meaningful information presented in an understandable format.
You need to take bull by the horns and make sure you’re the boss of your website.
